The discovery of GW of compact binary coalescence sources marks a promising future for the multi-messenger astronomy. It results from decades-long efforts on the theory, simulation, and GW observatory. And significant events will soon be the norm, providing a new playground for the gravitational physics and astronomy. In this talk, I will give a broad overview of GW, and the past and present of the GW observation. Numerical relativity and several computational aspects of GW research will also be addressed.
